Why No One Talks About Wellness Anymore

Why Mindfulness is Needed in Education

Stress, as a matter of fact is an important part of life and as a fact, not all stress is bad as there is the healthy part of life even in the early stages of life. We all need to be challenged somewhat in order to grow and develop, both children and adults alike.

This be as it is, the modern education system has seen the healthy stress displaced and its place taken by toxic stress. One can be said to be facing toxic stress in the event that the demands that they have in life get to outplace their ability to get coping with these particular demands. Here are some of the impacts that toxic stress has on the various people groups involved in education.

What we will take a look at first is the impact that toxic stress has on the students. This will have an impact on attention, emotion and mood regulation, sleep and as well the interest in learning in a number of cases. It gets to be even more troubling when you look at it from the perspective that such prolonged exposure to toxic stress will have such an impact on the child’s mental and physical health.

The other segment that is unduly impacted by toxic stress are the educators. Educators will see the effects of toxic stress in their lives starting out in effects such as decreased productivity and creativity in their duties and these finally grow to be more serious cases such as feelings of anxiety, dissociation, frustrations and finally bear in full swing in complete burnouts. As a matter of fact, it is on this that most of the cases and causes of quitting the teaching profession has been attributed.

The other group in the education system that has as well been affected by toxic stress are the parents. This has basically led to poor parenting habits where many parents have not quite been as effective at having an emphatic, present centered relationship with their children and instead approach it from a “to do” list style of parenting.

By and large, a number of these problems that we happen to face can be easily sorted by adopting mindfulness and having this in education. Mindfulness happens to be such an ideal solution for a number of these cases for the fact that it is going to get deeper into the problem diagnosis and dealing with it as it goes way beyond the conceptual mind to the very root cause of the problem. The need for such kind of an approach is in the fact that the roots of toxic stress actually lie in the nervous system. By and large, mindfulness happens to be taking off from the point where we start out on a journey to be aware of the thoughts we have, the emotions, sensations and the environment that we are in.
